As I said. You don’t need a ton of money to have fun with a high-tech drone. In fact, with these drones you can:

  • Improve your piloting skills!
  • Practice aerial photography!
  • Have fun flying!

All for less than 200 dollars!!!

Also, I want to share my advice on how to select a drone so you know what to expect from drones in this price range.

Why?

Because I want you to be an educated consumer and buy the best drone for you. You deserve it and I don’t see why you should depend on me to tell you what to buy.

But…

I’m always here to help you. That is why I’ve done all the hard work for you and got this list of drones for under 200 dollars.

Now… Imagine this…

Sunday morning: You and your family going to an airshow, not only to watch, but to be part of it! Imagine how much fun that would be!

Also…

Storing and maintaining drones can translate into spending time with children. These are great opportunities to teach them valuable lessons.

Besides…

People have started or switched careers with drones because:

  1. They make money (Avg. $26.75/hr)
  2. Have more fun than you and me at work.

What can you expect from these drones?

These drones are unique because they are between the toy-grade and high-tech gadgets.

You get the best of both worlds. On one hand there is the low cost of toy-grade drones, and on the other features of expensive ones.

I also want to share with you the two things that make it or break it with drones.

Are you ready?

  1. A drone is only as good as the flight experience you get with it.
  2. Your satisfaction as a customer is a must!

Without these two, I don’t care what they say, I won’t pull out my credit card, and you know what? You shouldn’t either!

What makes a good flight experience?

Your flight experience is a result of:

  • The drone’s basic and advanced features.
  • The quality of the product itself.

Here are the basic features I like to look at when choosing a drone.

  • Camera specs
  • Method for stabilization
  • Battery up (flight) time
  • Battery charge time
  • Fight range (How far can the drone go)
  • FPV transmission range (How far the drone can live-stream video)

As for the advanced features, here are some you can expect to have on some of these drones.

  • Headless mode: Helps beginners to control the drone when is far and you can’t see the front of it.
  • Altitude hold: The best ally for capturing amazing photos. A still drone is essential for image quality.
  • One key takeoff/landing: Take off or land your drone with the push of a button.
  • Return to home: Amazing feature to return a drone to where it took off. This is especially useful to avoid flyaway.
  • GPS: A super precise stabilization method for the drone.
  • Follow me: The drone follows you without you having to command it from the transmitter.
  • Draw the path: GPS allows drones to follow a specific route you determine on a map. This is useful if you want to take photos and images of specific places and don’t want to worry for operating the drone.
  • 3D flight: Do you like flips and rolls? This is the feature you want to look for.
  • Alarms: There are several, but the most common are low battery and low or lost signal. If these alarms get activated, the drone flies back to where it took off. Great feature if you ask me.

How to ensure customer satisfaction?

The ugly truth is: You can’t ensure customer satisfaction, because you don’t know how each individual drone is going to behave, yet… customer satisfaction can be predicted…

How to predict your customer satisfaction?

  1. Define a budget for your drone and don’t spend a cent more (I mean it)!
  2. Read reviews and ratings from current customers. Be a bit skeptical and learn as much as you can about the drone you want.

What about the drones on this post

The budget part is already covered, as you’ve already defined a max amount to spend on this drone (200 dollars).

I like to help my readers with ratings and reviews. I only review drones with 4+ rating stars from hundreds if not thousands of real customers.

This is why I say that if a drone appears on this site, is because it passed my strict criteria for evaluating drones.

if not, well… that is why you don’t see me recommending the same drones everybody recommends.

Learn all the details about the drone you liked the most

All right guys, it is time for the most interesting and fun part of this post, the actual reviews!

These drones are from best to better, based on my findings, experience, and thoughts about each one.

You can’t go wrong with any of these. I hope you find this useful!

Eachine E511S GPS Drone

The Best Drones under 200

This one is a good replica of the DJI Mavic Air. Of course you don’t get all the advanced features and flight modes the Mavic Air has.

But you get a good feel for how that transmitter works as well as the portability of a Mavic.

To begin with, this is a GPS drone, which means it is stable and has different flight modes.

One of my favorite ones is the circular flight mode. Here the drone orbits any object you set as center and from there the drone orbits it.

Advanced flight modes are follow me and waypoint mode. The follow me is quite obvious, the drone will follow you wherever you move.

The waypoint allows you to set points on a map, where you want the drone to go. Once activated, the drone will follow the series of points you established.

Another convenient feature is its portability, since it is a foldable drone. This means you can take it wherever you want and the space it requires is not that much.

The Camera

This is a WiFi 1080p with adjustable angle camera with great performance. Its field of view (FOV) angle of 120° allows you to capture wide enough images with great perspective from the air.

The angle at which the camera points is adjustable in a 45° range.

The WiFi camera can live-stream footage to your smartphone. You can experience the FPV and see what the drone sees while in flight.

The Transmitter

The transmitter is easy to use and friendly as well. It has labeled buttons that let you know what controls what. This is convenient as your learning curve goes faster.

This transmitter will allow you to control the drone for 300 meters. The live stream footage can get up to 60 meters only.

Nonetheless, an SD card can record what the drone sees even the video its not fed to the smartphone.

The Battery

While Eachine advertises up to 16 minutes flight time, the truth is you may get close to 10 to 13. Especially if you use any of the advanced flight modes.

Even so, the battery is good enough to gain some distance between you and the drone. The best thing is you can capture amazing footage with this device.

Buying extra batteries is always a good idea so you can extend the flight time of your drone. To recharge a battery, you’ll have to wait for 150 minutes.

The App

This is a fantastic and versatile app that allows you to control the whole drone.

Like before said, the control range decreases with the app.

Some of the most interesting things you can do with the app include the orbit and follow me features.

The app displays telemetry data to know where the drone is and what happens with it at all times.

What is inside the box?

  • 1 x Eachine E511S RC Quadcopter
  • 1x Transmitter
  • 1x 7.4V 1200 mAh Lipo Battery
  • 1x USB Charging Cable
  • 4x Protection Cover
  • 2x Spare Blades
  • 1x Screwdriver
  • 1x User Manual

What are customers saying about it?

For the money you’re getting into a great learner or beginner drone, I highly recommend a drone like this before moving up to the really expensive drones.

Excerpt of a verified purchase on Amazon.

Any downsides?

It is hard to think of any downside on this drone, especially for the money you pay.

In every test it held its claims, so this is one of the best drones, if not the, under 200 dollars.

I was not even bothered by the short flight time. I know this drone does things behind the scenes that consume battery power.

Final words on the Eachine E511S GPS Drone

Most drones on this list are Holy Stone and Potensic, and that is because those are great brands.

Yet, I have to accept that Eachine made a great drone with this DJI Mavic Air replica.

They also put some great features inside this machine for a small fraction of the price.

This drone gives a lot for the money you pay. If you are thinking of getting serious with drones and have 200 dollars, this is one of the best ones you can get.

Holy Stone HS120D FPV Drone

Holy Stone HS120D

The HS120D drone is another one selected for this list. I like Holy Stone drones because they are high quality devices and people get a lot of value from them.

In this case, this is a GPS flight assisted drone with a super flight range of 300 meters. It is not that big, but it is a powerful drone designed for outdoors and it is very, very stable and accurate.

It comes equipped with:

  • Headless mode, which will work great at high altitude.
  • Altitude hold, to get sharper footage.
  • One key start/landing, to simplify the flight process for beginner pilots.
  • Follow me mode, which is pretty useful for selfies and works great.

This drone surprised me for how stable and accurate it is when flying. I have to say that beginners will love it, and it is right on budget for our list.

The Camera

Like other drones on this list, the HS120 comes with a WIFI camera that allows you to do FPV. That is, live-stream video right to your smartphone from the drone’s perspective. Pretty cool if you ask me.

The camera has an adjustable angle of 75°. This lets you get a better picture while the drone is flying. It is perfect for practicing aerial photography.

The image is not stabilized, so you may see shaky video on windy days. The camera is 1080p and it captures great detailed images when wind is not present.

The smartphone and the SD card store all the video you capture. The SD card comes inside the box. Not bad for a drone under 200 dollars.

The Battery

The Holy Stone HS120D battery can give you 10 minutes of flight time. It will need 120 more to recharge.

The HS120D comes with a USB recharger with two slots for batteries. If you get an extra battery, you can charge it at the same time.

Also, the drone has an actual on/off button, so this helps to save battery life.

The Transmitter

This is a different remote control. It folds and unfolds to give you access to it.

The grip is very nice and it feels good when holding it. This transmitter has a clip to hold your smartphone. It allows you to enjoy the FPV perspective right in front of you.

This transmitter is rechargeable. So you don’t need batteries to power it. Just plug it into a USB power source and let it charge.

The App

Holy Stone developed an app to control their drones with both Android and iOS devices. In some cases, Android devices were not able to access all the features the app offers.

With the app you can:

  • Auto start and land the drone.
  • Activate the follow me mode (a bit intermittent with Android phones).
  • See telemetry data.
  • Watch the battery levels.
  • Draw a path for the drone to follow on a map (this one of the ones I saw not working on Android).
  • See if there are any alarms activated.
  • Control settings for speed modes.
  • Save video to your smartphone.

I like the connectivity of the app and other than the problems I mentioned before, I had a great experience with it.

What is inside the box?

  • 1 x HS120D Drone
  • 1x Remote Controller
  • 1 x 1200 mAh Battery
  • 1 x USB Charging Cable
  • 4 x Extra Propellers
  • 2 x Landing Gears
  • 1 x Screwdriver
  • 1 x Manual

What are customers saying about it?

My daughter had previously purchased me two other drones, one really small one and more recently another larger one a HS110D. I had great fun with both, but the HS120D is on another level.

Excerpt of a verified purchase on Amazon.

Any downsides?

Like I said in the review, there are some things worth to note for Holy Stone to improve on this.

  • The beeping while recording video (and doing pretty much everything else) must go away. I find it very annoying, I know some people don’t care but I do.
  • Brushed motors. Not a downside, but brushless motors would improve efficiency and performance.
  • I saw some issues with the app on Android devices.
  • Although a great flier, this drone is quite small for outdoors in windy conditions. The HS120D handles wind well. Yet, here is where more powerful motors could improve performance.

Many of these are personal preferences and not downsides. And you must know these things allow this drone to stay cheap.

Final words on the Holy Stone HS120D drone review

The HS120D is a great drone. It impressed me how stable and accurate this drone is.

The camera works to start with aerial photography. It helps you get an idea of how it is to film something from a top view.

If you want to have fun with a sharp and functional drone, then the Holy Stone HS120D is what you are looking for.

The Holy Stone HS165 – One of the best foldable drones

Holy Stone HS165

This is one of the best foldable drones out there and it is from Holy Stone.

The HS165 Holy Stone drone is quite a deal. It is full of advanced features and gives the pilot a great flight experience.

To start with, the flyability of this drone is amazing. It is an accurate device for its price. The GPS integrated module makes this a stable and easy to control gadget.

There are several features that help the pilot have better control over the drone and make it a fun gadget.

The HS165 is a foldable one. As you get more drones, you appreciate any saved space, and foldable drones are all about saving space.

Portability is an advantage of small and foldable drones. Since many people want to travel to capture amazing footage.

The Camera

The HS165 comes with a 1080p camera that allows you to capture FHD footage. This camera is inside the drone. It has an angle on the vertical, of approximately 15 degrees.

This angle makes it difficult to capture the entire horizon. Most of the times, it only captures what is in front and downwards. That could be a downside of the camera.

The camera does a good job as the images captured with this drone are high quality.  Yet these are not stabilized and some wind may impact the quality of images as well.

The Transmitter

This is a good size transmitter and it fits nice on your hands. It allows you to put all your attention in controlling the drone. I say this because some controllers are slippery and this ruins the experience.

There are labels on the transmitter, so this makes it easier for the pilot to know what controls what.

The controller will give you up to 250 meters of flight range.

If you want to experience the FPV, this drone can do that as well. The WiFi camera live-streams video in 5G to your smartphone. The transmitter holds the smartphone using a clip designed for that.

Another important thing is that while recording video, the transmitter is not beeping!

The transmitter is a rechargeable one, so you don’t have to deal with batteries.

The App

The app controls everything on the drone. You can pilot the drone using the virtual joysticks on the screen.

Battery levels and telemetry data appears on the screen of your smartphone (altitude, distance, drone speed, Etc.).

I liked this app records your footage on your mobile device as well, so you can access it right from there.

Auto takeoff and landing, headless mode, follow me mode, and the return to home are available from the app as well.

The app displays alarms and messages to tell when the drone is out of range or if the transmitter loses signal.

If the transmitter loses signal, the drone connects to the app. This prevents it from crashing. If the app is not available the drone does an emergency landing.

Not bad for a drone under 200 dollars!

What is inside the box?

  • 1 x HS165 Drone
  • 1 x 2.4G Transmitter
  • 1 x 7.4V 880 mAh Modular battery(Li-Po Battery)
  • 1 x USB Charging Cable for Drone
  • 1 x USB Charging Cable for Transmitter
  • 4 x Spare Propeller (Additional )
  • 1 x Screwdriver
  • 4 x Spare Screws (Additional )
  • 1 x Instructions

What are customers saying about it?

I’ve been flying a HS165 (quadcopter) drone for the last couple of weeks now and it’s really a lot of fun. I’ve found it easy to fly, very responsive and it’ll fly higher and farther than you can see with the naked eye. I lost sight of mine and had to use the RTH (return to home) feature to bring it back. The RTH feature worked great and when my drone appeared above me, I took back control and continued my flight.

Excerpt of a verified purchase on Amazon.

Any downsides?

The fact this drone has brushed motors could be a downside. On the other side, this is why it’s cheap.

Another thing is the fixed angle of the camera. Other drones on this list have a variable angle, allowing the pilot to capture a bigger scene.

Final words on the HS165 foldable drone

This is one of the most precise, accurate, and reliable drones on this list. The fixed angle of the camera is not a big deal. The image is still sharp and the FOV (Field of view, this determines how wide the image is) angle is 90°.

This drone looks a lot like the bat mobile (the one from the 80’s), and I liked its shape.

Its flyability is superb as it is a super accurate drone (I know I said that already but it is true).

Definitely another drone worth to include here.

The Potensic T25 GPS Drone – A dual GPS Drone

Potensic T25 GPS Drone

It is quite amazing to see how drone technology has progressed in the last few years. The Potensic T25 is proof of that.

To begin with, this is a dual GPS assisted drone. This means more stability and super accurate positioning of your drone.

In fact, this is one of the most accurate drones I’ve ever seen flying.

The follow me mode connects with your smartphone’s GPS for tracking. This makes it a great drone for selfies.

There are a set of features that are great aids for beginner pilots, this drone comes with some of these:

  • Headless mode
  • Altitude hold
  • One key takeoff/landing

The Camera

The Potensic T25 drone comes with a 1080p WIFI camera that allows it to capture FHD footage. Being a WIFI camera, it can live-stream video right to your smartphone in FPV.

The angle of the camera can change thanks to the mounting gear it has. This is not a mechanical stabilizer, so you can see shaky video on a windy day.

I liked that live-streaming seems to have no delay, so you are seeing things in real time.

I have to warn you: while the drone is recording, the transmitter beeps to let you know the camera is working. This can be a bit annoying with time.

The camera can store everything it records inside a Micro SD card, which is not included, so be sure to have one for this.

Also, the app will store the video that is live streamed to your smartphone.

This is good because the video quality of the footage stored in your phone is higher than the one in the SD card.

The Battery

This is a 3.7V, 1000 mAh battery… what does this mean? That it is a small battery.

This means you’ll have a short flight time, 10 minutes is what the box says.

The good news is that charge time is short as well, 60 minutes to be precise. In any case, it would be a good idea to get extra batteries as well.

The Transmitter

Do you like video games? Because this transmitter is a lot like a PS4 controller.

The size is perfect and feels comfortable when holding it.

It also has a clip for holding your smartphone, and thus see everything the drone sees on the app.

The App

Speaking about the app, you can find it for either Android and iOS devices, and from it you can:

  • Auto take off and land the drone.
  • FPV goggles mode (headset is not included).
  • Draw a path on a map for your drone to follow it.

The app is very responsive, and saves the drone’s footage in your smartphone.

What is Inside the Box?

  • 1 x Potensic T25 Drone with 1080P HD camera
  • 1 x Transmitter
  • 1 x 3.7V 1000 mAh Battery
  • 1 x User Manual
  • 1 x USB Battery Charger
  • 1 x Screwdriver
  • 2 x Extra Landing Gears
  • 4 x Extra Propeller Blades
  • 4 x Extra Protection Guards

What are customers saying about it

Very easy to set up and calibrate. Drone does a great job of altitude hold which makes taking photos and videos easy. Very responsive and accurate to the controller which also charges from a micro usb cable so no need to worry about batteries for that. Drone battery takes about an hour to charge.

Excerpt of a verified purchase on Amazon.

Any downsides

The Potensic T25 is a bit vulnerable to wind. Yet the drone is for outdoors, as the flight distance is great!

Also, I don’t like the beeping when recording video. A visual aid could tell you the camera is recording. It is quite annoying to have that sound over and over again.

Final words on the Potensic T25 Drone

I enjoyed a lot this drone. It is perfect for the intended purpose of any beginner and it helps you get a grasp of what flying a drone feels like.

Still, it comes with all these pro features that cheaper drones don’t have, so like I said: the best of both worlds.

The Potensic T18 FPV Drone

Potensic T18 GPS Drone

A simple and easy to use drone with dual GPS to make it super accurate and stable.

Drones use GPS for location, but the ones with dual GPS have higher flight precision.

The camera is WiFi and 1080p. It can live-stream video to a mobile device. Most people use smartphones and I recommend an iOS device.

Why?

Because of the app. Potensic updated it, but still I see better results with iOS devices.

This drone has altitude hold, headless mode, one key takeoff/landing and return to home.

The Camera

You already know this is a 1080p WiFi camera which can live-stream video to your smartphone.

What you don’t know is this camera has an adjustable angle of 75° on the vertical.

You can adjust this angle while flying from the transmitter. This gives footage a different light and life.

The footage is higher quality when seen from the SD card. So if you see some frames drop, don’t worry, the footage is complete in the SD card.

The Battery

This is a 3.7V, 1000 mAh battery, which means it is small and will give you about 10 minutes of flight time.

A battery will take 60 minutes to charge. Unless you have extra batteries, you’ll be able to use the drone again after that time.

Also, the battery tells you the charging status with a light indicator. The battery connects to the drone by putting it into the slot designed for that.

The Transmitter

If you like video games you’ll love this transmitter, as it looks a lot like a PS4 controller.

The flight range is of 300 meters with the controller.

The transmitter will beep when recording and when using another special feature. I don’t like these beeps, as they can be annoying, but some people actually like them.

The App

You’ll be able to control the drone with the app for up to 120 meters. After this, the drone may be out of range and the low signal alarm will bring the drone back to home.

Also, most functions of the drone are available through the app. Your headless mode, the return to home and follow me, are on the app.

What is inside the box?

  • 1 x Potensic T18 Drone with 1080P HD camera
  • 1 x Transmitter
  • 1 x 3.7V 1000mAH Battery
  • 1 x User Manual
  • 1 x USB Battery Charger
  • 1 x Screwdriver
  • 2 x Extra Landing Gears
  • 4 x Extra Propeller Blades
  • 4 x Protection Guards

What are people saying about it?

I bought this purely for fun, because I don’t need a “professional level” drone and don’t want to pay professional level prices. I’ve only had this for a couple weeks, but so far I’m impressed with the amount of features and great performance for the price.

Excerpt of a verified purchase on Amazon.

Any downside?

The app could use a bit of help with updates so that Android devices don’t have a problem with it.

The drone has brushed motors. And I’d like them to be brushless, but that is not a big deal, this drone is still powerful and fun.

And last but not least, the beeping sound while recording video can be a bit annoying after a while.

Other than that, this is a great flyer!

Final words on the Potensic T18

If you want a cheap and advanced drone that works well the Potensic T18 is what you are looking for.

Potensic T35 GPS Drone

Potensic T35 GPS Drone

The Potensic T35 dual GPS drone is a clone of the DJI Phantom model. The T35 has some great features and here I want to tell you a bit more about them.

Starting with the dual GPS, this system makes the drone super stable. The dual GPS helps with accurate positioning and follow me and waypoint flight modes.

The follow me mode follows your smartphone’s GPS. This is useful for taking selfies or recording you while doing extreme sports.

Waypoint makes the drone follow a series of points on a Google Maps screen.

The Potensic T35 drone has headless mode, altitude hold, and one key takeoff and landing.

As you already know, these are flight aids that simplify your job as a pilot.

The Camera

1080p, WiFi and with a 90° adjustable angle from the transmitter and while flying. Those are the camera specs of this drone.

As you can imagine, the 1080p relates to how sharp the image is, so we are talking about a FHD camera here.

Being a WiFi camera, it can live-stream video to your smartphone. This is great for experiencing the FPV right on your mobile device.

Last but not least, the adjustable angle is great for taking some amazing shots while flying.

The Battery

This battery will give you about 15 minutes of flight time. And needs 240 to recharge. Once on the drone, the battery actually has the on/off button for turning on the drone.

This is not a smart battery, meaning it doesn’t discharge itself in a controlled way.

This battery has four light indicators to tell you the amount of charge it holds.

It would be a great idea to get extra batteries so you can extend the flight time of your drone.

The Transmitter

I have to say I liked this transmitter. It is simple and well labeled.

The transmitter as well is rechargeable, meaning you don’t need to deal with batteries. You plug it into a USB power source and wait until full charge.

It feels great while holding it, as its size is perfect for most hands’ types.

It has a sliding clip for holding your smartphone. This allows you to see everything the drone sees right in front of you.

This transmitter can control the drone for 300 meters. After this the low signal alarm will kick in, bringing back the drone home.

The App

Unlike the transmitter, the app control range is only of 180 meters. Which is large and decent compared with other drones in this list.

The app tells you a bunch of information about what is happening with the drone all the time.

It displays telemetry data, battery levels, GPS status, and the live feed from the drone’s camera.

You can activate follow me and waypoint flight modes from the app.

It is compatible with both iOS and Android devices, and it is free to download.

What is inside the box?

  • 1 x Potensic T35 Drone with 1080P HD camera
  • 1 x Transmitter
  • 1 x 7.4V 2500 mAh Battery
  • 1 x User Manual
  • 1 x USB Battery Charger
  • 1 x Screwdriver
  • 2 x Extra Landing Gears

What are customers saying about it?

Did a bunch of research looking for my first drone, this one by Potensic seemed like the best value with all of its features and very reasonable price. It is a blast to fly and is easy linking up with the app on my iPhone.

Excerpt of a verified purchase on Amazon.

Any complaints?

I really liked this drone. It has brushed motors. I know these are powerful and help the drone stay cheap, but brushless would be better.

Other than that, this is a great drone.

Final words for the Potensic T35

I always like to see these clones of advanced and more expensive drones, for a fraction of the price.

It is obvious you don’t get the same quality of gadget that you would be getting with a DJI Phantom.

Yet, this is the type of drone you want to try before moving to the real deal.

This is a great device and people can get a lot of practice on a durable, cheap, and fun to play drone like the Potensic T35.

If you think you are the type of person who will stay with drones as a hobby, then this drone is for you.

Holy Stone HS110G – A GPS with 1080p Camera (Great footage)

Holy Stone HS110G GPS FPV Drone

I’ll be honest! The footage this drone captures is beautiful. I’m sure it will amaze you!

The HS110G is agile and a great flyer. It has lots of features that improve the fight experience of the pilot.

The material of this drone is solid and flexible. It allows it to take some impacts without major damage. It is a middle-sized drone with a 1080p fixed camera that captures amazing footage.

The FOV (Field of View) angle is 110° so you can take a wider picture than with most drones.

This drone is super stable thanks to its GPS. Its accurate position, makes it possible to get great images when the drone is still.

The GPS helps the drone return home and enable other intelligent flight features.

The Camera

This is a 1080p WiFi camera that is under the drone. The footage it takes is amazing and high quality.

The WiFi camera can live-stream video right to your smartphone to see what the drone sees. Live stream range is 150 meters, so definitely a great distance to explore around with this drone.

The 110° FOV allows you to capture a wider picture.

The Battery

This is a 3.7V, 1500 mAh, battery that gives you about 13 minutes of flight time. The charge time is 180 minutes.

A light indicator on the drone tells you when the battery charges completely.

The Transmitter

This is a minimalist and foldable transmitter. It is rechargeable, so no need for extra batteries.

The control range is 300 meters, which is among the average of the drones reviewed here.

The transmitter feels comfortable when holding it. There are labels on the buttons so it is easy to see what does what.

The App

This is a multifunctional app. It can control everything on the drone including the drone itself. The App displays telemetry data as well as battery life of both the drone and the transmitter.

If the drone goes out of range, the app tells you and the drone travels back using the return to home function.

The gives you access to the follow me mode, auto take off and landing, headless mode, and other functions.

You can set some operation parameters and progress little by little.

What is inside the box?

  • 1*HS110G Drone(with Manual)
  • 4* Extra Propellers
  • 1*USB Charging Cables
  • 1*Transmitter (with Phone Holder)
  • 2* Landing Gears
  • 1*3.7V 1500 mAh Drone Battery

What are people saying about it?

The Holy Stone HS110G has many great features, like follow me, draw, on maps, low battery return home, one key landing, and many more. The features that you find on the HS110G are what you expect to find drones that cost three times as much.

Excerpt of a verified purchase on Amazon.

Any complaints?

I would like to have a variable angle camera to play around with. This is not a big thing but still I’d like to have it.

The charging time of 180 minutes seems excessive to me. Especially when you only get about 13 minutes of flight time.

Also, the  brushed motors are not as efficient as brushless motors.

Final words on the HS110G FPV drone

I liked the fact this drone is middle-sized because that gives it more stability while flying. This may contribute to its amazing footage.

It struggles a bit with wind and image quality gets affected. But if the wind is low to zero, chances are you get amazing footage.

The flyability is superb. The GPS module does a great job in this drone and makes it super stable and reliable.

If you think this is the drone for you, I’ll tell you something, you can’t go wrong with Holy Stone.

The button below gives you access to a hassle-free full refund if something goes wrong with your drone.

This drone is a great choice for practicing and improving your aerial photography.

The Holy Stone HS100 Drone Review

Holy Stone HS100

The Holy Stone HS100 is one of the best drones you can get for less than 200 dollars. There are many reasons for this and here I want to share those.

This is a GPS drone, which means stability. Stability helps photos and videos quality.

The Camera

Holy Stone upgraded the HS100 camera from a 720p to 1080p. It rotates 90° to have front, top, and anything between views.

The follow me mode connect your smartphone’s GPS  with the drone’s GPS and follows you all the time.

This is useful for selfies and to film yourself doing aerobatics or any other extreme sport.

The Holy Stone HS100 Battery

This is a modular battery with a button that tells you its charge level. This is rare in drones of this price range but Holy Stone is always doing things like these.

The greatest flight time is 15 minutes with a full-charge battery. The camera and advanced flight modes will discharge the battery  faster. In reality you may get between 10 and 13 of flight time.

This is still pretty decent and you should not get discouraged by this.

The charge time of this battery is 3 hours or so, which is another big downside for this drone. If you ask me, I would recommend you to get an extra battery and thus enjoy the drone a bit longer.

Get it here!

The Holy Stone HS100 Controller

The control feels good when holding it. It comes with a clip to put your phone there.

This helps to see what the drone camera sees right on your mobile device.

The transmitter controls everything the drone does. Here the buttons you’ll find.

  • Power on/off
  • Automatic landing/take off
  • Indicator lights
  • Return to home button
  • Take Photo
  • Capture Video
  • Knob for tilting the camera
  • Knob to control the speed of the drone
  • Headless mode button
  • Follow me mode button

The Holy Stone HS100 App

The app reports everything happening with the drone while flying.

Things like drone and transmitter battery level appear on the screen.

This app is not exclusive of the HS100 drone, so you’ll be able to use it with other drones as well.

What is Inside the Box?

  • 1 x HS100 Drone (with Manual)
  • 1 x Transmitter with a Battery
  • 1 x 7.4V 2500mAh Li-po Battery ( USB Charging Cable)
  • 1 x 8G TF Card & Card Reader
  • 1 x Lipo Battery Fireproof Bag
  • 2 x Extra Propeller Guards
  • 4 x Extra Propellers (under the white foam box)
  • 2 x Extra Propeller Guards/2 x Extra Landing Feet
  • 4 x Blade Pads/4 x Blade Caps/4 x Fixed Rubber Pieces for Blades’ Screws/4 x Screws for Blades/4 x Screws for Motor/Bottom Body Cover/1 x Screwdriver

What are customers saying about it?

The Holystone HS100 drone is an advanced drone jam packed with a load of features. I have a couple of other drones but neither of them is as good as this one.

Excerpt of a verified purchase on Amazon.

Any downsides?

Like I already mentioned, there are a few things Holy Stone could improve on this done.

  1. The charging time is long. I’d like to see it going down or Holy Stone including an extra battery, for free, inside the box.
  2. The follow me mode is a bit erratic. The HS100G upgraded version of this drone fixed this.
  3. This drone has brushed motors. Brushless motors are more efficient and durable.

Final verdict on the HS100 drone

This is the drone many experienced pilots would have wanted to have when we got started with drones.

Even the downsides are not a big deal. This drone provides the perfect balance between pro and toy drones.

This is why I included it on this list. I’ve seen its potential and I know it will give you a great flight experience and make you a happy customer.

This drone is perfect to practice aerial photography and hone your skills as a pilot.

Altair 818 Hornet

Altair 818 Hornet

Durable and lightweight, that is a good way to describe the Altair Aerial 818 Hornet drone.

This is a flexible material-made drone. It comes with two batteries, spare propellers, and an SD card included.

This is the perfect drone for beginner pilots. It features 3 different speed levels for you to take you from newbie to expert.

Around the propellers there is a 360 flexible guard. It is part of the drone’s body.

This makes it perfect for indoors flight, but this drone is for outdoors too.

Drone enthusiasts know well the Altair Aerial brand. They are famous for their cool and high quality devices.

The Camera

This is a 120° FOV (Field of View, this determines how wide is the image) and 720p WiFi camera.

It can live stream video and footage right to your mobile device, either Android or iOS.

You can change the angle of the camera but only when grounded.

The Battery

This drone comes with two batteries inside the box, so you can charge one while the other is in the drone.

Each battery will give you about 15 minutes flight time. And it will take 60 more to recharge completely.

That is a short charging time when compared with similar flight time drones. Definitely extra points for this.

With two batteries, you get approximately 30 minutes of flight time. Remember to give the motors 10 minutes after each flight to increase their lifetime.

The Transmitter

If video games are your thing, you are going to love this transmitter, as it feels a lot like an Xbox controller.

The transmitter feels good when holding it and it is very simple to use. It comes with a “cheat-sheet” out of the box to tell you how to operate it.

The transmitter can control the drone for 150 meters. Be sure to keep that in mind so you don’t lose control of it.

This transmitter will need 4 AA batteries for operation.

The App

The app can control the drone. It is compatible with Android and iOS devices.

The control range of the app is 60 meters. Consider this if you plan to go farther and use the transmitter instead.

This is the same distance the app can receive live feed from the WiFi camera. If you are using the included micro SD card, you’ll still be able to see whatever the camera recorded.

What is inside the box?

  • Altair Aerial 818 Hornet drone x1
  • Transmitter x1
  • Extra propellers x4
  • Battery x2
  • Screwdriver x1
  • User’s manual x1
  • USB charger cable x1
  • Camera x1
  • Camera cable x1

What are customers saying about it?

I am NOT a drone pilot, but this drone is a great way to learn. The instructions are very clear (except for hover control) and well-written. The drone is extremely easy to set-up and paired with my Samsung Galaxy Note SM N920A without any problems.

Excerpt of a verified purchase on Amazon.

Any downsides?

I would say other drones under 200 dollars can adjust their camra angle from the transmitter. But this drone has to land for that.

Something else is the lack of out of range alarms or geo-fencing, since this can lead to flyaways.

I also think the app control range is a bit short.

Final words on the AA818 Hornet drone

I decided to put this drone in the list because it has features that other drones on this price range do not have.

The extra battery for instance is one of them.

This is a great learning drone and one that can take hard hits over and over again.

If you want to get started with drones and are looking for a durable one, this drone is what you are looking for.

DJI Tello Drone Review

DJI Tello

A DJI powered drone under 200 dollars! Yes, you got it right!

Believe it or not, you can have access to a DJI quality drone for less than 200 dollars.

In fact, the price is less than $100, yet I thought it would be nice to bundle things up to give you the most value for your money.

You can buy the drone for less than $100 dollars. Yet I found a bundle package where you get:

  • 2 more batteries
  • A charging station for 3 batteries at a time
  • A bunch of spare blades
  • Other cleaning accessories

All for a bit more, but still under 200 dollars.

This is huge for the money you pay.

Now…

Let’s put things straight: Tello is a drone from Ryze. But they partnered with DJI and Intel and came up with this amazing and educational drone.

It is educational because besides learning how drones fly, you can mess up with coding for this drone.

With enough Tello drones, you can create a swirl, which is a bunch of drones flying and doing shapes and light shows.

This is not GPS drone, yet it has some sensors to hold position that work pretty well.

This drone flies with your mobile device, like a tablet or a smartphone.

There are some transmitters they sell but these don’t give extra flight distance.

The Camera

This is a 720p WiFi camera with a fixed angle. The drone sabilizes the image with electronics and algorithms. So you get great footage with this gadget.

All images and videos will go to your smartphone and from there you can see what the drone sees.

The Battery

Tello drone comes with a small battery that gives you 13 minutes of flight time. And will take close to 90 more minutes to charge the battery.

Here is where the bundle I’m recommending makes a lot of sense. It has 3 batteries that will charge in 90 minutes at the same time.

If you get the drone alone, the battery has to charge inside of it. So you’ll have to ground the drone for 90 minutes before taking off again.

The Transmitter

Your phone and the app are the transmitter.

From here you activate the advanced flight modes. These will need a certain level of battery.

  • Throw and go allows you to let the drone go and it will fly and hover at a specific location until you tell it otherwise.
  • Hand landing does what it says.
  • 8D flips roll the drone in many directions, and other fantastic flight modes.

The flight range is 100 meters. Something I noticed is that sometimes the image tends to pixelate as you move farther.

This was not all the time but it is something that it happened, so I’m reporting it.

Like I said, there are transmitters you can buy for this drone, but these won’t give you extra flight distance.

The App

The app is user friendly and controls everything on the drone. I like the layout of buttons and functions as it prevents you from pressing something by mistake.

You can customize a few things about the flight and the footage via the app. Great for a drone in this price range.

What is inside the box?

  • 1 x Aircraft
  • 4 x Propellers(Pairs)
  • 1 x Battery Charging Hub
  • 3 x Tello Battery
  • 1 x Propeller Guards(Set)
  • 1 x Micro USB Cable
  • 1 x Propeller Removal Tools
  • 1 x VanCityUAV Cleaning Kit

What are people saying about it?

If you have never flown a drone before or just want something to entertain you indoors when it’s too yucky outside then look no further. This little drone keeps being fun day after day! Indoor/outdoor photo quality is surprisingly good provided you have enough light. Battery life is average for small drones of this type and extras are inexpensive enough to have several.

Excerpt of a verified purchase on Amazon.

Any downsides?

  • Image quality can go low as the drone moves far away. Not in all cases but that happened to me.
  • I wish this camera was 1080p, as the footage would be great.
  • Some people complain about not having a transmitter, because if you don’t have a smartphone, you can’t fly the drone.

Last words on the DJI Tello drone

I can tell you the Tello drone should not be on this list.

This is such a powerful flying machine, yet it is a brushed toy-type drone that anyone fly in no time.

The Tello will teach you how to fly drones? Yes! And it will do something more: It can get you started in the drone business at an intimate level.

Why?

Learn how to code these things and the world is yours.

This is why the Tello is such a different and amazing drone that I’m sure you’ll have fun with anywhere.

Do yourself a favor and get the bundle I’m recommending.

How are you going to use these drones?

What  is next? This is up to you! But I want you to imagine yourself flying any of the drones on this list and having a good time.

I curated this list with great care and attention to details, yet I’m also aware that in the end you want two things:

  • An affordable drone under $200 dollars.
  • Have fun with your drone to move forward with one of a higher price range.

I now pass it onto you!

There has not been a better time to get started with drones than today. The technology evolves and new, better, and cheaper drones hit the market every day.

Pick the one you like the most and let me know how it goes.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment below and start the conversation.
