Since a few months ago I’ve been digging around these fancy items called “quad-copters” and I’ve been researching what they are and why is that people seems to like them so much. My desire for learning more about them made me go deeper in my research in order to find a top quality product worthy of writing something for you guys here. I went to some RC stores, visited various websites, and dug through several forums and finally found the Eflite Blade mQX RTF quad-copter; this micro multi-rotor promises a lot in terms of stability and maneuverability, the whole device is pretty small so it is perfect to fly indoors or outdoors.
The inexperienced flyer may think that these toys are all the same and that it all boils down to if you like the design or not, this can be a huge mistake as there are a lot of aspects to take into consideration, the good news about it is that I took the time to make my research, so a huge part of the job is done already. I invite you to learn and understand more about these amazing devices and discover why millions of people around the world enjoy having fun with RC flying toys.
What is important to know about Quadcopters and especially about the Eflite Blade mQX?
As I told you before, there are a lot of things to consider when selecting a quadcopter; these will have a great impact in the experience with the product and in order to have a great one I recommend you to pay close attention to what I’m about to share here. There are very specific aspects that make the Blade mQX RTF quadcopter a very unique and interesting toy, you may not be crazy about it the first time you see it, but trust me, it’ll grow in you from the first time you fly it. Another important feature of this toy is that it is for intermediate pilots, since previous experience with coax helicopters is recommended, if you have no experience flying coaxial helicopters I recommend you to take a tour for the reviews pages here as you’ll find plenty of them.
The stability and control of any flying toy are probably the most important
There are a lot of things to consider about RC flying toys; with time I’ve learned that what really makes the difference between the good, the bad, and the ugly are the stability and control of the ship. This is amazingly important as you will enjoy much more a toy that it’s easy to handle than one that offers poor control and stability. As I’ve discussed in other reviews, a lot of which determines how stable is the aircraft has to do with the technology installed on the ship, and it is very important to have a good stability and control device helping you to take care of the whole thing.
The Eflite Blade mQX RTF quadcopter has one of the most advanced systems out there in terms of stability and control, it is called the AS3X 3 axis stabilization system and it is a beauty. This little device is installed on the 4-in-1 board that controls the whole aircraft. It gives unlimited control to the pilot enhancing the flight performance at the same time. The AS3X takes control to a higher level so that the ship is not bumping with the wind; this makes this quadcopter perfect for flying outdoors. The AS3X system gives the stability of a big toy to this small quadcopter, the best thing of all is that you as the user have to do nothing since the technology is embedded in the electronics of the mQX and it acts by itself.
The technology used on quadcopters must be simple and practical
One of the main things that I’ve observed with RC toys in general as my learning grows is that the best toys are those that offer the simplest design, and this is due to the fact that if something breaks, repairing it is very easy. Every hobbyist loves this since the simpler the design the easier to fix it, in most cases this cuts down repairing costs and helps to have the quadcopter in the air sooner. For this reason a simple design is more than welcome for most hobbyists, including myself.
The Blade mQX quadcopter has a 4-in-1 control unit that has everything required to put this little friend in the air. The single board is mounted under the canopy of the device and it contains the DSM2 receiver that gets the commands from the transmitter, the ESCs, which are the Electronic Speed Controls, the mixer that takes the signals that control the four 8.5 mm brushed motors and mix them to make the flight smoother, and last but not least, the AS3X sensor unit that is in charge of providing full control to the user and enhance the flight performance.
What about the airframe’s resistance?
One of the most important things to consider when purchasing any RC flying device is how resistant it is to crashes, these will happen whether you are a newbie or an advanced pilot, and it is critical to ask or check if the design is capable of withstanding crashes and rough landings. In addition to this, the design must be as lightweight as possible in order to have an efficient use of the battery. This balance is quite hard to achieve but many good brands today are doing this by putting great effort into their designs in order to be able to offer the most to their fans.
Blade is one of the developers that is doing this, their designs are pretty famous among all hobbyists and even when their toys are more expensive than other brands, these designs are much more superior and are still affordable for most budgets. The Eflite Blade mQX RTF quadcopter has a super light airframe that is resistant to most crashes, this story can be found all over the internet, people are reporting crashing and hard landing this toy only to discover that it flies like if nothing had happened. The whole design of the quadcopter is simply the motors, the canopy, the 4-in-1 control unit, and the battery; thus it is super lightweight and displays an efficient performance. Each motor has a protective drive gear below to withstand most crashes and not damage the motors when landing.
The two main configurations of the mQX allow users to have a great flight experience
Something that is very specific of quadcopters is the fact that they can be a little confusing when flying them since the whole structure looks the same, this can affect the flight performance and result in crashing the ship. Some designs require making elaborated tweaks to the ships that can cause severe damage to the structure and ruin the functionality of the device.
The mQX Blade quadcopter can be used with an “X” or a “+” configuration, each one provides a slightly different experience and the recommendation is to use that which is your favorite. Each configuration allows you to test and hone your flying skills and it is up to you deciding which suits you best. It is important to remember to install the black or white propellers at the back or front of the ship so you know where the quadcopter is heading to.
The Transmitter plays a Key role in the flight experience
The transmitter is a key aspect of these toys; many people neglect this because they can buy a version of the device without the transmitter for saving a few dollars, the fact is that if you don’t get the right technology to control your gadget, chances are that you’ll have poor performance issues, this may cause unexpected control loss or a total crash.
The mQX quadcopter comes with pretty good technology in terms of transmitters. The RTF version comes with a MLP4DSM 4-channel DSM2 transmitter; the batteries for the transmitter are included in the box. This transmitter is perfect for making the quadcopter flying smoothly. The DSM technology provides faster and higher response that most non-DSM 2.4 GHz transmitters. This remote control as well offers a Duallink signal security so it is very hard to experience interference.
A lot has to do with the battery and charger
If there is a single component that can make it or brake it in terms of performance, that has to be the battery. This is very critical for the optimal and effective operation of RC toys, and you should not neglect it. If the battery is poorly cared it can cause severe damage to the ship, a Li-Po battery with poor maintenance can ignite and even explode, these components can be as dangerous as you want them to be and for that reason it is very important to have the right battery with the right maintenance. It is imperative to never let a charging battery alone as well as charging it using the proper AC/DC adapter and charger.
Inside of the box of the Blade mQX is included an E-fite 1S 3.7V 500mAh Li-Po battery; this cell can give easily ten minutes of flight; it also comes with the E-flite Clectra 1-cell DC variable rate Li-Po charger that is required to properly charge the battery cell, the charger requires 6AA batteries and will take about an hour to fully charge the Li-Po cell. In order to charge the battery it is required to hold down the big black button for a second or two until the light starts blinking. If a single red light is not blinking the battery is not being charged.
Note: Never attempt to charge the battery without the proper DC battery charger, if the adapter is damaged on not functioning well it is mandatory to get a new one.

I am a 60 yr old guy who just got into RC Helicopters. I bought the Eflite Blade mQX quad a few months ago and it’s still ALIVE!!!!!
Being a beginner this machine should have died a terrible death from crashes weeks ago, but it’s like the Ever Ready Bunny it just keeps on keeping on.
Durable is an understatement.
I do recommend learning outside on a grassy surface… helps w/ crashes. And I have replaced a few parts, but it’s well made.
It’s fast, responsive, and way FUN. I just learned how to do flips and barrel rolls. Really! Did I mention way Fun?
Here is another review from a different person:
I have several quads, I wanted to have some fun indoors and the binding to my radio was easy. The other day I decided to take it outside, it was a little windy and got this thing up to about 300 feet with a micro camera attached to the bottom and that is where I messed up. The wind took it and it plunged into a large pond sinking right away 😮 (It was submersed for at least 5 minutes), trashed the mini cam and I thought the drone as well will go to the trash, WRONG!! When I got it out of the water the light was on! I quickly unplugged the battery and took it home where it dried off over night and all day while I was at work, I came home and plugged it in and it works flawless!! Incredible! Just incredible!
Are there any complaints?
I have been digging through a lot of reviews, comments from customers, and testimonials about this mini quadcopter and everyone is crazy about it. They are even mentioning that this device is better than the Parrot AR Drone 2.0, which is another toy that I’m reviewing here on my site. So far there are no complaints about this device; this is something great because people are actually saying amazing things about this Blade mini quadcopter.
